Many ancient philosophers were extremely stupid. A person is only as smart as their philosophy. In their defense, one might say, "Well, they didn't have any hope to cure aging in their lifetime".. That's bogus. There is always hope. Rather than accepting death, a smart ancient person would have desperately searched for a fountain of youth in nature and by prudent living of the most extreme degree. They should have thought something like this: "If it appears that everyone without exception dies eventually from aging, then I must do something DIFFERENT from EVERYONE else. "Learning how to die" is Eternal Life Blasphemy and is indefensible regardless of the time period.
