Many people say they are absolutely certain that God and/or the afterlife exists. Their certainty exposes their delusion and failed logic. If these people only HOPED for life after death, that would be reasonable. But the faith of most people is more than a HOPE -- they actually pretend to KNOW that an afterlife exists! If you think I misrepresent the majority of religious people, please do an experiment. Ask any religious person the following question: "Do you KNOW that God and/or the afterlife exists, or is this just something you HOPE for?" More often than not, you will find that the average religious person claims to KNOW that God exists and KNOW that they will be saved in some form of afterlife. Any reasonable person understands that these people don't actually KNOW as they claim to. They are in fact deluded. They PRETEND to know because this feeling of certainty gives them comfort regarding their own death. The fear of death is very uncomfortable to live with, so to avoid living with the fear of death, they willfully delude themselves. Ignorance is bliss as the saying goes. Remember, it is not merely the belief in God that makes someone deluded -- it is certainty that makes someone deluded. If you believe in the afterlife and would like to remain in the realm of sanity, please repeat after me: "I understand that the afterlife is only a hypothetical possibility. Therefore, I understand that my belief in the afterlife is WISHFUL THINKING. If I die physically, I fully acknowledge that I will very likely cease to exist, permanently and irreversibly. I acknowledge that [insert deity here] is also hypothetical and may not save me." (Note: I myself am an atheist but if I did believe in God and/or the afterlife, I hope I would have the guts to repeat these sentences.) So if anyone really desires eternal life, then the most obvious conclusion is to stop relying on hypothetical deities for salvation and start to take full responsibility for one's eternal life. Support and accelerate the progress of life extension science, which could be our only salvation from death. Anybody who wants eternal life should support the research that aims to CURE AGING and offer Indefinite life extension. Do whatever you can to generate more funding for SENS Foundation (give as much money as you can possibly afford to SENS and encourage others to do so)... Live as safely and healthily as possible so that you reach Longevity escape velocity. Have the bravery to live with the fear of death, in the full knowledge that you won't likely get another chance at life. If your brain is destroyed, you get nothing but a sad and depressing game over. Have the intellectual honesty to admit that eternal life is not a guarantee, but rather a hope that we should continually strive for. (Living forever physically IS POSSIBLE if we cure aging, and then carefully avoid death by all other causes for the rest of eternity.) via Eternal Life Fan Club http://ift.tt/1OBa6ma
