I hear a lot of people talking about the Simulation hypothesis. The idea is gaining much popularity, especially among transhumanists. Some transhumanists are beginning to act rather confident that there is life after death and they'll just "wake up" in the "real world" when they die. Don't count on it! It's completely hypothetical wishful thinking, just like God. Honestly, simulation theory is starting to feel like the opium of the transhumanists. As humans it can be tempting to latch onto wishful best-case scenarios, but wise people latch onto the worst-case scenario and act accordingly. Most people tend to structure their worldview in a way that gives them comfort. Many are willing to sacrifice truth, reason and logic in exchange for comfort. As eternal life fans, we need to pay close attention to what threatens our existence, without deceiving ourselves for the sake of having peace of mind. It's OK to hope for the best, but always expect the worst -- which is that when you die you cease to exist permanently, and that the only way to live forever is to preserve the brain you currently have. It's terrifying to think that we're living in a world without any design or intention behind it, but this is the nightmare we have to deal with. We have to take this chaos and turn it into order. via Eternal Life Fan Club http://ift.tt/1LPPTZ7
